Manchester United set Mason Greenwood asking price after talks with Barcelona

**Title: Greenwood’s Transfer Saga: Manchester United’s €50 Million Demand**

Recent reports from Spain suggest that Manchester United has slapped a hefty €50 million (£42.7m) price tag on sought-after forward Mason Greenwood, amid interest from Barcelona.

Greenwood, currently on loan at Getafe in La Liga, was allowed to depart Old Trafford in the final hours of last summer’s transfer window. This move came in the wake of the 22-year-old’s suspension from the United squad following his arrest in January 2022 on serious charges including attempted rape and assault. Despite all charges being dropped last February, United faced significant backlash over the prospect of Greenwood’s return to the first-team fold.

United’s co-owner, Sir Jim Ratcliffe, has hinted at the possibility of Greenwood’s comeback, indicating that a final decision on the forward’s future is yet to be made.

In recent developments, United’s football director, John Murtough, and head of director of football negotiations, Matt Hargreaves, reportedly engaged in talks with Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, alongside agents Frank Tramboli and Fede Massai from CAA Base, during a meeting in Barcelona earlier this week.

Barcelona, eyeing Greenwood as a potential summer acquisition, have initiated discussions regarding the forward’s interest in a move to Camp Nou.

However, United, while open to the prospect of selling Greenwood, have firmly set their asking price at €50 million (£42.7m). The Premier League giants are also considering the option of extending Greenwood’s loan spell at Getafe, although his existing contract is slated to expire at the end of the upcoming season.

As the transfer saga unfolds, Greenwood’s future hangs in the balance, with both United and Barcelona closely monitoring developments ahead of the summer window.
