Manchester United set to sign new left-back after injuries to Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia
Manchester United are strategizing to bolster their squad by acquiring a young left-back during the upcoming summer transfer window. The decision comes in the wake of the team grappling with injuries to key players Luke Shaw and Tyrell Malacia, disrupting their campaign significantly.
Throughout the season, Manchester United have grappled with the absence of a natural left-back due to the unavailability of Shaw and Malacia. Initially, Sergio Reguilon was brought in on loan from Tottenham Hotspur last August to fill the void left by Shaw’s three-month injury spell. However, Reguilon returned to Spurs in January, leaving Manchester United without a reliable left-back option.
The medical team had initially anticipated Malacia’s return from a knee injury sustained last May, prompting the decision to part ways with Reguilon. However, Malacia has encountered multiple setbacks in his recovery and is unlikely to feature for the remainder of the season. Meanwhile, Shaw is slated to make a comeback in May following a hamstring injury.
In the absence of Shaw and Malacia, Manchester United have had to resort to makeshift solutions, such as deploying Victor Lindelof at left-back during their recent match against Everton. Additionally, Aaron Wan-Bissaka is currently sidelined due to injury, exacerbating the left-back dilemma for the club.
Renowned journalist Fabrizio Romano reports that Manchester United have taken a proactive approach to address their left-back deficiency by actively exploring the transfer market for suitable candidates. The club is keen on identifying a promising young left-back who fits their desired profile, signaling their commitment to fortifying the squad ahead of the upcoming season.
